Volunteer story… Robbie
Robbie joined us in June 2014 looking to support Neelam attend the gym regularly. Robbie came to us to enable him to fulfil his desire to become a personal trainer and felt volunteering in the gym would help him gain the experience and confidence to pursue this. Neelam a member of ours was looking for someone to motivate and support her in the gym, so the partnership works well for both of them. Robbie was looking for a little support in arranging sessions and there structure with Neelam due to a head injury causing him difficulties with planning. We were able to assist with this to begin with until Robbie felt comfortable taking control and the pair met regularly for 6 months helping Neelam to increase her fitness and manage her fatigue.
Robbie has since then supported another of our members to start going to the gym regularly by helping with motivation and guidance, knowing that she has a friendly face to meet her and accompany around the gym. Robbie has now joined an Instructability course where he is training for a fitness qualification, he has also been offered a part time position at the local gym. Well done Robbie!
